The Dandy Lion Montessori School is located adjacent to the headquarters of the International Association of Progressive Montessori (IAPM) in Grover Beach, California and is its exclusive showcase laboratory pre-primary school. It provides an authentic traditional implementation of the Montessori Method of education for 24 children aged 2 1/2 to 6 years of age.
Our Mission at Dandy Lion Montessori School is simply to serve the children of many exceptional parents in our community, who are truly concerned about the future of their children in these uncertain times. We provide our students with the very best start in their lifelong learning adventure, by maintaining an authentic Montessori program, which the International Association of Progressive Montessori (IAPM) has always been respected for worldwide. We will continue to excel in implementing a specially prepared environment for their budding minds to explore and utilize in developing their critical thinking skills. Beyond providing the full complement of venerable Montessori didactic materials, by genuinely respecting children engaged in the awe inspiring process of developing a unique mind of their own, we provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere devoid of judgmental stress. The serene ambiance thus achieved, is conducive to the concentration necessary to organize a young mind for the daunting task of sifting, sorting, and classifying the incredible volume of information they will encounter, as joyfully diligent learners in the 21st Century. We acknowledge that our role as the guiding adults in this exceptional environment is critical to their obtaining the most benefit from it. The Montessori approach to education provided at Dandy Lion Montessori School is centered in the uniqueness and potentials of the evolving child. The purpose is to develop the whole child into a well-rounded human being.
Children enter this world with a natural desire to learn and to perfect themselves. Montessori education fulfills this instinctive need by providing a “Prepared Environment” where children are allowed the excitement of learning by choice, rather than by force. In this environment, children develop the “inner discipline” that guides their self-development and the joy of learning.
Individualized lessons and instruction are given each child as their individual interests and readiness for new concepts is manifested. The multi-age setting fosters socialization between different age groups, provides role models for younger children, and allows for modeling leadership, mentoring skills for the older ones. In addition to academics, the program strengthens virtues such as love, peacefulness, compassion and kindness. Children imbibe values of respect for nature, caring for and acceptance of others, and becoming a responsible member of society.
Mankind’s basic tendencies are for exploration and orientation, order, imitating and abstracting, imagination, forming social groups, communication, independence, discipline, activity, creativity, calculation, and repetition. As they are satisfied, habits for lifelong learning are perpetuated, and children are free to become independent thinkers and learners.
