ART WEEK
The idea for Art Week originated back in The Laguna Beach Montessori School in 1975. That was the first Montessori School I started over many years ago. At that time many of the children’s parents were artist as Laguna was at that time an “artist colony” and every summer Laguna hosted the “Pageant of the Masters”. The “Festival of the Arts” and the “Sawdust Festival”. All of which are world famous and draw people to Laguna as they still do today. So in the homes of our children Art was a major topic of conversation. I decided that we at school would have our own Art Week, invite the parents to come in share their talent and work with the children and at the end of the week we would have our own Art Exhibition.
It was a great success! So from that first year I continued the tradition. Art Week allows parents the freedom to come into the classroom and interact freely with the children and teachers and to be a part of this fun experience.
When I took over the DANDY LION PRESCHOOL and converted it into a Montessori School here on the Central Coast close to 20 years ago, I established the tradition of Art Week right away. Over the years we have had some great art shows, enjoyed by parents, children, teachers, and any visitors lucky enough to be invited to attend the Art Exhibition.
FIELD TRIPS
Here at the Dandy Lion Montessori School we take annual FIELD TRIPS to the Pumpkin Farm in late October where the children get to pick their own pumpkins right from the field in which it has been grown.
In late January we go to the Pismo Beach Monarch Butterfly Grove after the children have studied the migrating path of the Butterflies from Southern Canada to Pismo Beach.
We have also visited the Petting Zoo and the Exploration Station and had lots of fun.
